IPVS - Applications and Features

IP Video Surveillance is a relatively modern term, as in year 2009, to denote the use of modern technologies to capture, transmit, display and record moving pictures (video) for monitoring purposes.

Scenario Control: Video must be recorded and displayed in real time to provide the state of affairs to the control room so that the control room can decide to take immediate actions such as despatching a petrol guard.

Event Analysis: Video must be stored in an archive to allow reviews retrospectively for identifying the possible causes of an event such as burglary or traffic accident.

Modern technologies for the transmission and distribution of video images have become more efficient and inexpensive.  This is where IP comes into play- I stands for Internet and P stands for Protocol.   IP is an open standard.
