In the examples listed below, the purposes of video surveillance can be as simple as for security monitoring or as comprehensive as inclusive of state control (such as traffic conditions and crowd congregations), statistics extraction (such as counting identified objects) and crime prevention studies (such as identifying suspicious objects).  The presence of a video surveillance system can also be effective as a deterrent of crime.
