  • Older security cameras or CCTV provide a level of clarity of 720 x 540 resolutions whereas modern cameras provide 1240 x 1024 resolutions that provide 3 to 4 times of information detail.
  • Older security cameras or CCTV normally produce analogue videos and these videos will decrease in clarity during any transmission process.  IP videos do not suffer the same degradation.
  • Older video surveillance systems depend on specific cables (co-axial) for transmitting videos from the camera to the recording or display device whereas modern systems use standard data cable that can be already installed for a computer network.
  • Older video surveillance systems depend on proprietary equipment which produces a lock-in effect on the customer.  You cannot upgrade the system except with equipment from the same vendor.  Modern IPVS systems are based on open standards and are cheaper and freer to acquire and use.
  • The challenge to suppliers is to provide a Video Surveillance system that is easy and reliable to operate and cost the owners the least in the long term.
