This seminar provides key background information on trends of information technologies that affect the performance, productivity and competitiveness of New Zealand businesses. The Internet is obviously indicative of the current generation of technology. It is not simply one of the media for communication but it is going to be a business place for all of us in the near future. It contains business resources at our fingertip that were otherwise not accessible before. It sells and rents showrooms, meeting rooms, deal rooms etc to us for a price that we would not resist if we know where to find the Internet landlords. It provides all sorts of services for us to manage our start up capital and operational overheads. However, are these all practical for businesses? On the local front (if we see the Internet as the far end), we are seeing mobile phones being packed with more and more PC functions. Will we have mobile PC the size of an USB Thumb Drive? Will the PC end up as an information socket on the wall like a power plug? We will attempt to discuss these interesting but immensely relevant issues in 40 minutes and provide a simple concept for business decision makers to take away.
